With a history spanning over 1,200 years, To-ji Temple is Japan’s first esoteric Buddhist temple. Established by Kobo Daishi (Kukai), it became the fundamental training center of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism. The temple is home to many historic structures, including its iconic five-story pagoda and the Kondo (Golden Hall).
